Eta Carinae

Paul Asbury Seaman As more conventional space music, this release is the most appealing, and my personal favorite of the four albums by VAAST here on Bandcamp (so far). It also shows his diversity as a multi-instrumentalist. There are strong echoes of Vangelis on several tracks, including some grand-design flourishes, and the album takes some unexpected sonic turns. If you want sleepy drone music, look elsewhere. Favorite track: Dark Matter.

'Eta Carinae' is my second album, representing the new sound of VAAST which had evolved in the years since the first. The cleaner, more refined sound of Eta Carinae strives to combine the classic synthesised sounds of decades gone with a future dystopian vision that is unique in its delivery. Heavily sequenced percussion and deep sweeping pads meet clean aggressive waveforms with offbeat drum patterns made using Ableton Live in arrangement view. Two real-world synthesisers were used on this album, notably the Waldorf Pulse 2 and Kurzweil K2661 which itself features a VAST - Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology. The end result is a minimal-techno journey to outer space, 7500 light years away.
