Afterlife

Paul Asbury Seaman VAAST brings a fresh musical voice—almost stunning in its uniqueness—to the crowded world of space-themed ambient music. More rock and roll than sleepy drones, his approach still fits firmly within the genre. While the tracks on Afterlife are short, they have the effect of more long-form compositions. The music here is a bit slower and more somber, yet also more aggressive, than his previous work. Not surprising, given the year that’s been. Favorite track: Coma Berenices.

about

Afterlife represents our human attempts to understand love and loss, and ultimately offers reflections on our unique perspective in the cosmos and what may exist beyond our own perceptions. Key to the album was the sense of distance and time passing, therefore transitions are stretched out and more minimal in parts than previous releases, however the songs are short and strive more to create an atmosphere than to arrive at a destination. This is the first VAAST album made using Ableton Live's session view and as such there are some interesting time relationships between some of the instrumentation. The album is dedicated to my father Martin who was dearly loved by all.
